Who knew there was such a thing as National Pet Parent Day? Does that mean my parents get a day off? Do I have to walk myself? Pick up my own poop?
Don’t get me wrong. I would if I could. After all, my Pet Man (Peter) and Pet Lady (Claire) take pretty good care of me. And I must say, I enjoy the parade of fun crossovers that Pet Man brings around for me to ride in. Although I don’t like the really big ones ‘cause the jump up into the back can require real athleticism. Not my jam.
Oooh, what’s this? Pet Man says it’s a 2022 GMC Terrain Denali, the fancy one. And I like fancy. Pet Lady buys me the fanciest dog food. GMC, which stands for Give Me Cibble, did some research on vehicle owners and their dogs, and came up with a bunch of car safety tips for Pet Parents.

Did you know that 70 per cent of Canadian pet owners rank their pet’s safety as a priority during travel? Doesn’t say much for the other 30 per cent. GMC says adding harnesses, pet hammocks, and booster seats will make the ride “that much more enjoyable for your furball.” Furball. That’s funny.
And 50 per cent of Canadian Pet Parents think it’s very important not to forget us in the back seat. Duh. This Terrain has a rear seat reminder when you shut it off, and in the event Pet Man leaves me in here and somebody steals the Terrain, OnStar can track me, and unlock the vehicle to let me out. There’s a pretty good chance the thief would have kicked me out anyway, ‘cause I’d be totally freaking.

Here’s another good one. A full 85 per cent ranked their pet’s comfort as a priority while travelling, and GMC says classical music calms dogs. I can attest to that. Pet Lady plays classical music a lot and that stuff puts me right out. I’m more of a classic rock kinda gal — Three Dog Night and Steppenwolf are my faves. I also like a band called Squirrel Nut Zippers for obvious reasons.
And speaking of music, Pet Man says the Bose audio in this Terrain Denali sounds pretty good. I also hear him saying nice things about the real volume and tuning knobs, and how the interface and ergonomics in here make him happy. That’s nice for me, because a lot of the time he says bad people words when jabbing his finger at a piece of glass with little pictures on it for too long.

The jump up into the back of the Terrain is not too bad, and there’s lots of room in here for me. You know what else I like about the Terrain? It’s not very fast. Sometimes Pet Man gets these stupid SUVs with big noisy motors, and he goes all Lewis Hamilton on me, which I hate. My favourite driver is Lance Stroll because I much prefer a nice, slow stroll. One of these days I’m going to barf all over his Alcantara. And speaking of Lewis Hamilton, his boss Toto Wolff has the best name ever. ‘Cause Toto is a little dog and wolf is a big dog.
I heard Pet Man talking about the Terrain’s 170-horsepower 1.5L four cylinder, and how he thinks it’s more like 170 squirrels. But at least the squirrels aren’t very thirsty, he says. Squirrels. That’s funny.
Speaking of squirrels, just over 50 per cent of Canadian Pet Parents prioritize cleanliness when travelling with mud loving pets, making seat covers a must. GMC sells rear bench seat covers that are water resistant, easy to install, and machine washable. There’s also a big rubber mat in the Terrain’s hatch so my muddy paws don’t make a mess. Which reminds of the day I found a liquified possum in the forest and rolled all over it. Best find ever. My Pet Lady said some bad people words that day and gave me a bath. That was ruff.

But today they are taking me in the 2022 GMC Terrain Denali to Rattlesnake Point Conservation Area in Halton for a hike in the lovely spring woods. I like it here. We saw a coyote. It didn’t have a collar. Since it’s National Pet Parent Day, I will try to be good. I won’t pull my leash, I won’t roll in anything stinky, and I’ll pick up my own poop. That’s funny! As Meatloaf said, “Two Outta Three Ain’t Bad.” I like meatloaf.
