The current-generation Kia Forte has been in the market since 2015.
The current Kia Forte, also known as K3 and Cerato in markets outside the US, has been around since 2018. It received minor updates in 2021, keeping it fresh and attractive for those still shopping for this body type. However, the Korean sedan is clearly in dire need of an update.
Thankfully, a prototype has been spotted in Korea for the first time, signaling that the automaker is ready to introduce a new version. The images below were first posted on the Naver forum, showing the model in a parking lot at night. Another prototype was spotted, courtesy of Autospy, and posted at Cochespias.
Initially, there wasn't an indication of what this sedan was as it was heavily disguised, with thick panel coverings found all over.

However, the CL4 marking on the tires, which matches the internal code for the Forte/K3, confirms that the prototype is indeed the next-generation replacement.
Up front, there isn't much to see except for design cues from the EV9, particularly the vertical LED DRLs and multiple bulbs surrounding them. At the back, the upside-down L-shaped taillights are borrowed from the EV9, though it's also reminiscent of the restyled Picanto small hatchback sold in global markets except for the US.
This styling is also seen on the EV5 concept revealed earlier this year, which tells us that Kia's remaining ICE vehicles will follow the design direction of its battery-powered offerings.

With its fastback shape seen on the spied prototype on the road, it's unclear whether the Forte will still retain its current sedan body or adopt a liftback form like the outgoing Kia Stinger. Meanwhile, the Kia Forte5 version of the nameplate has yet to be seen in public; the five-door hatchback was discontinued in the US due to low sales.
Powertrain options have yet to be discussed, but there's a big chance that a plug-in hybrid variant will be introduced, considering the automaker's foray into electrification.
With this sighting, Kia's expected to introduce the next-generation Forte next year. We'll keep an ear to the ground for further updates and sightings leading to its reveal.
