Opel has confirmed that the new-generation Astra will not be made available in South Africa.
This follows the reveal of the new Opel Astra on 13 July 2021.
The new Astra contrasts the rounded design of the previous generation, as it features a sharp design and a low-slung look. It is also the first Astra that is available with an electric drive option.
A muscular stance was achieved through a short front overhang, which is complemented by forward-raking C-pillars and aggressive daytime-running LEDs.
The Astra also receives sporty alloy wheels, along with a black contrast roof on the model shown to the media.
Interior
Two 10-inch displays help form a new “human-machine interface” in the Astra.
The one display serves as a digital instrument cluster, while the other serves as the touchscreen interface for the car’s infotainment system.
This infotainment system can also be controlled through voice commands and offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.
Opel has used its award-winning AGR seats to provide improved ergonomics and comfort, too, while a storage space of 422 litres with all seats up is available.
Performance
This new generation of Astra cars is offered as a plug-in hybrid, as well as petrol and diesel variants.
The hybrid power units provide the best performance – with 165kW on offer.
This is compared to the internal-combustion engines, which provide 81kW-96Kw.
A six-speed manual gearbox comes as standard on the combustion-engine models, while the hybrids will receive eight-speed automatic transmissions.
