Vauxhall has announced prices for its updated Crossland crossover, which drops the ‘X’ in the three year-old car’s name, and adds the brand’s latest ‘Vizor’ front end styling already seen on the smaller Mokka.
The Brit company’s answer to the Renault Captur starts at £19,060 for the basic SE, though with automatic LED headlights, a 7in touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, lane departure warning and speed limit recognition, it's less basic than you might expect.
Stretch your budget to £20,210 to step up to SE Nav Premium and, no surprises, you get full satellite navigation, but you also get a bigger 8in screen, front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera and LED fog lights.
Sporty-looking Sri Nav brings 17in alloy wheels and contrasting roof colours for £21,360, but if you want to go down the luxury route, you’ll be looking at the Elite duo.
The standard Elite costs £22,610 ads heated leather seats and a heated steering wheel, but only the £23,120 Elite Nav combines leather with the navigation system and rear-view camera, plus a wireless charging pad for your mobile phone.
And finally, if you want your Crossland to come with everything but the kitchen sink, you’ll need to fork out £25,615 for the appropriately named Ultimate Nav. The poshest Crossland builds on the pile of goodies already offered in the Elite Nav, by adding Alcantara seat trim, keyless entry and start, and silver roof rails.
And if you think the trim levels seem to have every base covered, so does the engine line-up, provided you’re not looking for VXR-grade performance.
There are three 1.2-litre petrol engines, but we might as well call it two, since the base version is a feeble non-turbo 82bhp model that’s going to struggle to get out of its own way and is barely any more economical than its more powerful brothers.
The remaining 1.2 petrol engines come in 108bhp and 128bhp flavours, the bigger one with a choice of six-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.
Still hooked on diesel power? Vauxhall offers two: a 108bhp 1.5 mated to a manual ‘box, or a 118bhp 1.5 connected to an automatic transmission. Whichever Crossland you go for power is sent to the front wheels only.
Fancy one? The order book is open now and deliveries should start early in 2021, that pesky Covid permitting.
