Lexus will bring its new ‘Luxury Mover’ people carrier to the UK before the end of the year
The people carrier genre might not be the most glamorous but that’s not stopping Lexus from launching its second-generation LM MPV, previewed here by an official teaser image.
The LM (which stands for ‘Luxury Mover’) has been available overseas since 2020, as what is essentially a re-badged Toyota Alphard. The second-generation model will be at the Shanghai Motor Show on the 18 April, pitched as a rival to the Mercedes V-Class. The new car will also make its way over to the UK, the first time the LM has been sold here through official channels.
The shadowy image from Lexus doesn’t reveal much about the new LM. A falling line from the roof to the rear pillar is a current Lexus design trait and to the front a big, tall grille similar to the one on the new RX is almost certain to appear.
It’s unlikely that we’ll see a fully-electric Lexus LM, given the availability of pure-electric platforms parent company Toyota has access to. Instead, we should see a similar selection to the new RX with self-charging hybrid and plug-in hybrid options.
The outgoing car comes with either four or seven seats and we expect this to carry over to the new LM. Lexus’ offering should also feature added soundproofing technology, memory foam seats, a mini-fridge and a panoramic sunroof to help it create a limousine-like experience for rear passengers.
There’s no word on pricing yet, but expect the upcoming LM to cost from around £70,000, making it one of the more expensive premium MPVs you can buy.
