April 2022 looks very exciting as various car manufacturers are gearing up to launch their new products in India. From Honda’s new Hybrid car to Tata’s new electric vehicle, April month sure looks very promising for the Indian automobile industry.
Honda City Hybrid
Honda is gearing up to launch the hybrid version of the fifth-generation Honda City in India. This new hybrid version of the Honda City can be driven in hybrid mode, petrol-only mode and EV mode.
Thanks to its ability to run on electric power and smartly switch between the power sources, the hybrid version of the Honda City can deliver excellent fuel efficiency figures in the city.
Powering the Honda City e-HEV is a 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle i-VTEC engine with 98bhp of power and 127Nm of torque, supplementing the petrol engine is an electric motor with 108bhp and 253Nm of torque.
Volkswagen Virtus
The Volkswagen Virtus is the replacement for the Volkswagen Vento sedan in India. The Virtus sedan is based on the same MQB-A0 IN platform that also underpins other vehicles such as the Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and Skoda Slavia.
Thanks to this platform, the Volkswagen Virtus is the biggest sedan in its segment and also uses 95 per cent localised parts to keep the prices low.
The Volkswagen Virtus comes with two engine options. The 1.0-litre TSI engine produces 113bhp of power and 175Nm of torque, whereas the 1.5-litre TSI engine puts out 148bhp of power and 250Nm of torque.
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga & Maruti Suzuki XL6
Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the updated versions of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and XL6 MPVs in India. We expect the Indo-Japanese automaker to launch the facelifted version of the Ertiga by the mid of this month. Whereas the new Maruti Suzuki XL6 is expected to be launched by the end of April 2022.
Though both these MPVs could feature minor cosmetic changes, the main change will be their updated powertrain with a new 6-speed automatic transmission replacing the old 4-speed automatic gearbox.
Skoda Kushaq Monte Carlo Edition
Skoda could soon launch the ‘Monte Carlo’ edition of its Kushaq SUV in India. Compared to the regular model, the Skoda Kushaq Monte Carlo Edition will feature some cosmetic upgrades and a few additional features to attract more customers.
However, the Skoda Kushaq Monte Carlo Edition will be mechanically identical to the standard model and it is likely to be offered with both the 1.0 TSI and 1.5 TSI engine options.
Hyundai Creta Knight Edition
Hyundai Creta needs no introduction in India. It is one of the most popular SUVs in the market and a consistent seller in Hyundai’s product portfolio. Now, Hyundai is gearing up for the launch of the Hyundai Creta Knight Edition.
This new model will feature cosmetic upgrades and also comes with a few additional features over the standard variant. We expect Hyundai to offer the Knight Edition of Hyundai Creta in 3 trim levels – S, S+, and SX(O).
Honourable Mention: Tata EV
Tata Motors recently released teasers of their upcoming electric SUV concept. According to Tata Motors, this new electric SUV concept vehicle is scheduled to be unveiled on April 6, 2022.
According to speculations, the upcoming electric vehicle could be the precursor to the Tata Nexon Coupe EV. We expect, this new EV to pack at least 40kWh battery pack and deliver a range of 400kms to 450kms on a full charge.
