It’s not the Hyundai Casper, no! This is the Hyundai Exter, another diminutive SUV set to be revealed by the South Korean brand, though unlike the Casper, the Exter isn’t expected to be exclusive to its brand’s home nation.
Spotted by Instagram account seoul_car_spotting, the Exter is seen undisguised and registered, but not in the market it’s most likely intended for – India.
As such the Exter has been teased officially by the brand’s Indian arm, featured in a post on Instagram with a render of the baby SUV with the caption: “First look. Get ready. Coming soon. Think outside. Think Exter.”
While nothing is official yet, it’s likely the Exter will take on a small engine, tipped to be a 1.2-litre engine by Autocar India, with a turbo 1.0-litre engine a possibility and a potential manual gearbox.
It features modern Hyundai design language, including space for (though not definitely) a light bar across the front in the same style as other contemporaries from the brand. It does feature ‘H-shaped’ LED headlights which have begun making their way into the brand’s design language.
The Exter is unlikely to make it to Australian shores. (Image: @seoul_car_spotting on IG)Of course, as with many cars for the Indian market, or indeed heavily metropolitan places like Korea or Japan, the Exter probably won’t make it to Australia, as it’s unlikely due to size and low-cost production to meet safety standards here.
Hyundai’s SUV range instead kicks off with the small Venue here, from $21,900 before on-road costs.
