The new Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer estate is now available to order, with prices starting from £25,005. Two trim levels are available, and deliveries are due to start towards the end of the summer.
While buyers are now typically opting for SUVs instead, the new Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer will exist in what is still a competitive market, renewing its rivalry with estate versions of the Ford Focus, SEAT Leon and Skoda Octavia.
2022 Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer estate: prices and trim levels
Vauxhall offers the Sports Tourer in two of the three trim levels available on the Astra hatchback: Design and GS Line. The former is well-equipped, with push-button start, front and rear parking sensors and an infotainment touchscreen that includes sat nav, DAB radio, Bluetooth and smartphone connectivity. Standard safety features include autonomous emergency braking, lane-departure warning and a driver drowsiness alert system.
GS Line brings sporty looks, bigger alloy wheels and black contrasting exterior trim. Extra equipment is fitted, such as two-zone air conditioning, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, adaptive cruise control and a 360-degree parking camera. This spec starts from £27,900, rising to £33,400 for the plug-in hybrid – which is limited to the GS Line trim.
Design and dimensions
As usual, the Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer will feature the same design approach as the hatchback. At the front, the trademark Vauxhall Vizor houses the car’s safety and driving assistance tech and is flanked by a pair of LED headlights.
The estate bodystyle means the wheelbase (the distance between the front and rear wheels) of the Sports Tourer is 57mm longer than that of the regular Astra. The boot is larger at up to 608 litres with the rear seats in place, which is 44% more than the hatchback, and folding them down increases space to 1,634 litres. The new Astra Sports Tourer is actually smaller than the outgoing model, thanks to a shorter front overhang and improved packaging.
For added versatility, Vauxhall will also offer the Astra Sports Tourer with an Intelli-Space boot floor. Only available on non-hybrid models, this adjustable boot floor can be tilted to create separate compartments for luggage or even removed for even more space.
Interior
On the inside, the Sports Tourer is largely unchanged from the hatchback. The dashboard is dominated by a 10-inch touchscreen that has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Physical dials for functions such as the climate control should make changing settings easier while driving.
The Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer is offered with petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid options. Mirroring the Astra hatchback, petrol cars will make use of a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine with either 108 or 128bhp. The diesel model will use a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 128bhp. These engines will come with a manual gearbox as standard; an eight-speed automatic gearbox is available as an option on the 128bhp engines.
The plug-in hybrid powertrain is the same as the one in the new Peugeot 308. This consists of a 1.6-litre petrol engine and an 81kW electric motor that together produce 178bhp. It comes with an automatic gearbox as standard and owners can expect a zero-emissions driving range of up to 42 miles.
