Renewal of registration for the Civic, installing RogerAbs and some more pictures.
Hi all,
Since I wrote the review, I renewed the registration of the Civic. Then as I fully loaded up the car for the first time for a weekend trip to Bhor I experienced the woes of the soft rear suspension and ended up installing RogerAbs after my return. That’s what this update is about.
Renewal:
I got the renewal of registration done for the Civic, as it would turn 15 y/o in June 2023. I hired an agent, and the process only took a couple of hours on the appointment day. The RTO did a physical examination to determine if the car was roadworthy. My father took the car to the RTO, and my presence was not required. The whole process cost me 14k, including the agent fees. The entire process was incredibly easy and trouble-free.
Weekend trip to Bhor:
I insisted that we take my car for the weekend trip to Bhor. I drove the car with my brother in the passenger seat and my parents in the backseat. My dad was more than happy to sit at that back, taking a leave from the decades of solo driving duties. The trunk was loaded with luggage for the trip, and the fuel tank was filled to the brim. This is the first time I took a loaded car on a trip of any significant distance. The shortcomings of the soft rear suspension were quickly apparent. The rear sat quite a bit lower. On some undulations of the Pune-Bangalore highway, the suspension bottomed out as the rear springs were already quite compressed due to all the weight at the back. Next, there was a narrow ghat road and driving on that road with rear seats occupied was not fun. There was a day and night difference between tackling the ghat roads when the rear seats are occupied vs when they are not. The suspension often made ‘thud’ sounds on some bad patches with sharp potholes. The car also scraped a couple of speed-breakers when I could not use an angled approach due to surrounding traffic. The sound was gut-wrenching and jolted my parents, who until then were super comfortable in the back seat.
Apart from the soft rear, the car was fantastic. Quick, comfortable and quite the looker. Sharing some pictures from the trip:
