Marc Marquez, after the Italian GP, is aiming for a much better result at the Sachsenring, following his crash resulting in a DNF. Marquez has had a 100% win streak in the German Circuit, participating 11 times and taking the top step all 11 times.
Repsol Honda have won 11 times at Sachsenring since 2010, and from 2013 onwards, Marc Marquez has been called the ‘SachsenKing’. The track is 3.67km long and is quite different from most other circuits as it mainly features left-handed corners.
Marc Marquez enters yet another weekend with the same mindset and determination that he’s had for the last few years, but difficulties only seem to persist for him and the team. Even after the team attempted to boost the morale of the team, the result at Mugello was below disappointing, with Marquez crashing out early on in the race.
Sachsenring is one of the most technical tracks from the season calendar and making the quick switch to this from one of the fastest tracks of the season will be a huge challenge for Repsol Honda and the whole Honda Racing Team (HRC) in getting their RC213V in competitive positions.
Joan Mir, following his crash, had to get an MRI done from the Centre d’Imatge Diagnostica de la Dra Cuesta in Andorra. The MRI showed major bruising on his right hand with synovial fluid and inflammation, making it difficult to move his arm freely. Due to this, Mir will not be allowed to compete in the German Grand Prix, and will instead go visit his personal Traumatologist, Dr. Juan Garcias, at Palma. Also, he will not be replaced for the upcoming race.
After the race in Italy, Marc Marquez said, “When you have a difficult weekend the best thing that can happen is to go racing straight away – and this is exactly what we get to do. We arrive in Sachsenring, a track I have always enjoyed a lot and had a lot of success at. Of course, I arrive wanting to do well, my focus and determination is at 100% like always. There will be many challengers this year and we need to work well from the start of the weekend to prepare for Saturday and Sunday and keep working with Honda to improve.”
Thoughts On The Repsol Honda And The Upcoming MotoGP Race
It is unlikely for Repsol Honda to completely bounce back, and should instead focus on taking small steps towards achieving their goal. Marc Marquez has been all over the place this season and needs to focus on consistently finishing races, instead of crashing.
