DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – Performance Tech Motorsports rounds out its Motul Petit Le Mans lineup with Tyler Maxson.
The veteran prototype team is welcoming 17-year-old Maxson to the No. 38 CardioAccess Ligier JSP320 for his LMP3 debut.
The young up-and-comer will race alongside the season-long endurance pairing of Dan Goldburg and Cameron Shields for the ten-hour event. With an impressive resume in IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, Team Principal Brent O’Neill is eager to see what Maxson will bring to the team.
“I’m happy to welcome Tyler to the team for this event,” O’Neill said. “One glance at his CV shows how quick he is in a touring car, so I’m excited to see what he can do once we introduce him to our Ligier JSP320 platform, we’ve really dialed it in this year. Cameron and Dan have meshed well together all season, finishing on the podium in both of their outings, and Tyler definitely will complement the existing chemistry.”
While the weekend will serve as Maxsons’ first with the team, he was introduced to the LMP3 platform and endurance format earlier this season at the Sahlens Six Hours of The Glen in New York.
The Georgia native has been working his way up the professional racing ladder for the past four years, winning the 2019 TC America TCA championship and the 2020 TC America TCR Championship before joining IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge in 2021.
With two seasons complete in IMSA’s ladder system he is prepared to step up to the high downforce, rear-wheel drive Ligier JSP320 for his longest IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship race to date.
“We have worked long and hard to put a deal together,” Maxson said. “It may be a precursor to some additional racing in 2023. I have tested the LMP3 car in the past and really enjoy the speed and downforce that it provides. While the driving style is a little different than my TC car, it’s a jump I have made in the past and it’s a jump I feel confident I’m ready to do again at my home track, Road Atlanta. Being a home race for me I would love nothing more than to stand atop the podium at the end of the 10 hours.”
