The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is aiming to facilitate the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) by calling for a large-scale tender to expand the charging network.
At the same time, LTA will also update the MyTransport.SG app (for Apple users here and for Android users here) to enable users to search for charging points. In addition, a new public education campaign is being launched to raise awareness on EVs.
12,000 CHARGING POINTS BY 2025
LTA will call a large-scale tender in April 2022 that will cover the installation of charging points across nearly 2,000 carparks.
The tender will comprise up to 10 packages, with each sized to cover approximately the same number of carparks, and will be valid for 10 years.
Each tenderer must deploy between three to six charging points in their designated carpark by end-2025. They can also scale up the deployment in each carpark to a cap of 12 charging points during their concession period.
Each tenderer will be assessed on its plan to offer affordable, reliable and sustainable charging services. They will also be assessed on their plans to trial and implement solutions to deter the hogging of charging spaces, as well as maximising deployment in carparks with limited electrical capacity.
These tenders are expected to be awarded in the fourth quarter of 2022. The deployment of the charging points, on the other hand, will commence in the first quarter of 2023.
LOCATING CHARGERS
In line with this, LTA will also be enhancing the MyTransport.SG app to offer information on charging points offered by all major operators, starting with the over 800 public charging points in over 200 locations across Singapore.
The updated app will display information such as pricing, power rating and plug type to help users plan their charging schedules. Users will be able to search for the charging points of their preference, and will be directed to the charging operators’ apps for payment or to Google Maps for navigation.
Even more advanced features such as the availability of charging points in real-time, will eventually be added.
EV EDUCATION
LTA will also roll out a national campaign to educate the public on EVs, and help foster gracious charging etiquette and good charging habits.
The campaign will aim to raise awareness of EVs and their benefits to owners and the environment. In addition, it will cover how the public can contribute to the responsible sharing of charging infrastructure.
