Skoda’s first all-electric RS performance hero has been uncovered with the reveal of the new Enyaq Coupe SUV.
The new variant is a four-door coupe-style version of the original Enyaq SUV that Skoda revealed in 2020. That model is expected to come to Australia this year, although timing is yet to be announced.
Skoda currently only sells an RS version of the Octavia mid-size liftback and wagon, and the Kodiaq large SUV, but it has previously offered an RS version of the Fabia light hatch.
As well as being Skoda’s first electric RS, the Enyaq is also the first Skoda SUV to be offered in the coupe-SUV body style.
Built on the same MEB platform as the Seat Born, Volkswagen ID.3, ID.4 and more, the Enyaq Coupe lines up with the similarly position VW ID.5, which is a swoopy coupe version of the ID.4.
The Enyaq Coupe is offered with four powertrains in Europe, kicking off with the rear-wheel drive (RWD) Enyaq Coupe 60, which comes with a 62kWh battery and has an output of 132kW/310Nm, while the RWD 80 ups the battery to 82kWh and produces 150kW/310Nm.
Next up is the Enyaq Coupe 80x which has a second battery on the front axle, enabling all-wheel drive (AWD) and ensuring a system output of 195kW/425Nm.
The performance hero of the Enyaq Coupe range is the RS which uses the same dual-motor setup as the 80x but pumps out up to 220kW and 460Nm – the same power outputs as its twin under the skin, the VW ID.5 GTX.
The RS can race from 0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds – 0.3 seconds slower than the GTX, but 0.2 seconds quicker than an Octavia RS. It can’t match the pace of Kia’s upcoming EV6 GT sports flagship that can cover the same distance in just 3.5 seconds.
Skoda hasn’t detailed the driving range for all variants, but the Enyaq Coupe 80 can drive for 545km between charges.
Using a fast charger, the 82kWh versions can be topped up from 10 to 80 per cent in 29 minutes, according to Skoda.
In terms of the design, it looks like a cross between the BMW X4 and a Tesla Model X from the side profile. The front-end design matches the regular SUV, as does the slimline tail-light treatment, but the key difference is the slopping roofline.
Skoda says the Coupe’s drag coefficient of 0.234 – an improvement over the regular Enyaq – aids aerodynamics and has had a positive impact on the model’s driving range.
The Enyaq Coupe Sportline and RS feature a sports chassis that’s been lowered by 15mm at the front and 10mm at the rear compared to the regular grades. These sportier models also gain full LED Matrix headlights, 20-inch alloy wheels unique to the respective grades, a unique front apron and other flourishes like gloss black rear diffuser, grille surround and window trim.
The RS is exclusively available in very bright Mamba Green paint.
Inside the five-seat Coupe matches the SUV with a 13-inch multimedia setup and 5.3-inch digital cockpit as standard, while an augmented reality head-up display is optional.
Skoda calls its interior design trim options ‘Design Selections’ and there are a number that feature different materials and colours, including Loft, Lodge, Lounge, Suite and ecoSuite, while the RS has RS Lounge and RS Suite.
Some of these feature seats made with a combination of natural new wool and polyester from PET recycled bottles.
The long wheelbase and flat floor have freed up plenty of interior space which Skoda says is on par with the Octavia wagon. The boot can swallow 570 litres with all seats in place.
