Not set for launch until 2030, this Lexus sports coupe isn’t close to being built—and some of the technology it will use hasn’t been developed yet.

- The Lexus EV sports car targets a o-60 mph time in the low two-second range.
- Lexus is also looking at the future wave of electric vehicles to use solid state batteries, which should help save some weight and achieve the targeted 430-mile range.
- Lexus says this upcoming sports car should hit the road in 2030.
Just because electric cars are coming, it doesn’t mean they are going to be boring. At least, that’s not the case with the upcoming Lexus battery-electric sports car. While we’re still far from the expected 2030 launch date for the upcoming Lexus machine, the team behind the upcoming Lexus sports coupe released some new images of its still-to-be-named machine.
The details of this upcoming car are still incredibly light. That said, the expectations are high. Lexus is looking for its future car to sprint to 60 mph in the low two-second range. That might be a step slower than the Tesla Roadster’s lofty 0-60 times but seem well within the realm for a battery-electric sports car.
Considering 2030 isn’t exactly around the corner, it’s safe to assume there will be some technological improvements in the electric car world. Lexus is hoping solid-state batteries will be ready for its upcoming sports car. The solid-state battery pack would help shave some weight off and give Lexus the extended range that the company is targeting for this car. That range: 430 miles on a charge.
Of course, this car, and the supporting sedan and SUV counterparts, are nearly a decade away, so there is a lot that could change along the way. That said, this EV sports car could be right on the money if it lands in 2030 and hits the expected targets.
