- The Lexus RZ is set to debut online April 20 at 6 am EST on the Lexus website.
- This upcoming Lexus EV is expected to share the same e-TNGA platform that underpins the 2023 Toyota bZ4X.
- The Lexus RZ will likely debut as the RZ 450e and continue the Lexus alphanumeric naming convention.
Joining a string of luxury EVs that will make their formal, public debut, the Lexus RZ will be revealed tomorrow morning on the company’s website. Lexus has kept relatively tight wraps around the details of its upcoming battery-electric crossover, and we’re looking forward to seeing all of its details laid out. But there are a few things we’re expecting to see in this upcoming crossover.
The Lexus RZ will likely ride on the same e-TNGA platform found underneath the 2023 Subaru Solterra and Toyota bZ4X. Though, you can expect there will be some performance enhancements headed to the more luxurious—and expensive—Lexus variant.
As for its official alphanumeric name, we’re expecting to see the Lexus RZ 450e, which snuck its way into some of the images found during Toyota’s EV day last December and is featured prominently in the image above, to potentially arrive as a 2023 model. Obviously, these numbers have no association with an engine’s displacement like other Lexus products such as the LC500. It could reference the combined motor torque, horsepower, or range. Although, it could be a collection of numbers that just sound good.
As for details like range and power, the teasers provide little guidance. Assuming it uses the 71.4-kWh battery found in the bZ4X, we’re expecting this to have about 300 miles of range and at least 201 hp on tap. Though, the RZ 450e probably won’t have less than the 215 hp found on the dual-motor Toyota, because of the Direct4 badge at the back of the Lexus.
All of these questions will be answered shortly as the team at Lexus peels back the curtain on this upcoming electric crossover and shares details. Of course, this is only part of the greater push that Toyota outlined during its EV day event last year. Even still, it looks like Toyota group brands are making a strong push in the battery-electric world.
