Is it just us or does the new GX look like a G-Wagon?
The 2024 Lexus GX and 2024 Lexus TX will make their debuts later this week on June 8 at 8 PM EST. Before both new models are revealed, Lexus has put out one final teaser that gives us our best look yet and what to expect from each. As a reminder, the GX will finally enter its third generation, replacing the current second-generation model that has been on sale since 2009. The TX, meanwhile, is an all-new crossover model with three rows of seating that replaces the RX L and is based on the same platform as the Toyota Grand Highlander.
Let's start with the GX teaser because it shows far more of the vehicle. The entire car is in-frame but is partially obscured by a splash of muddy water. This image shows that the new GX is set to adopt a more boxy shape that reminds us of a Land Rover Defender or Mercedes-Benz G-Class. It appears to have a black roof and a cool bronze paint job.
Previous teasers for the GX have shown the bulged hood and a full-width taillight spanning the length of the rear end, similar to the larger LX. Both the GX and LX ride on Toyota's TNGA-F platform, so it's safe to assume the former will use some variation of the latter's 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 engine and 10-speed automatic transmission, replacing the ancient 4.6-liter V8 in the current model. The Tacoma's potent four-cylinder hybrid powertrain is also a possibility.
As for the TX, the teaser shows the front end for the first time, revealing a body-color grille that's similar to the smaller RX. The headlight takes a unique shape, positioning the daytime running light above the main beam rather than below it.
Like the Grand Highlander it's based on, the TX will offer tons of space for passengers and cargo. This model will better allow Lexus to compete with three-row luxury crossovers like the Acura MDX and Infiniti QX60. Lexus hasn't mentioned what powertrains will be available for the TX, but we expect a range of gasoline and hybrid variants. The gas model will likely share the Grand Highlander's 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, and the hybrid will improve on that engine with an electric motor.
This should be the final teaser leading up to the reveal, which will be huge news for Lexus.
