Lexus is expanding the level of innovation in their ES range through minor interior design changes and under-the-skin upgrades.
The seventh-generation of the Lexus ES sedan has proved to be a success in the local market, said the company, with its new updates aimed “to ensure all ES customers experience the highest level of driver assistance technology”.
The changes Lexus made include intelligent clearance sonar (ICS) and rear cross traffic alert and brake (RCTA-B) across the range.
This means the ES can detect stationary objects ahead and behind the vehicle, as well as crossing vehicles that may be approaching from behind.
This enables it to warn the driver of an imminent collision, as well as apply braking while in reverse if a driver fails to respond fast enough – at a speed of up to 15km/h.
For the first time, the ES 300h EX now also comes with a blind-spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert as standard.
Interior upgrades
New interior upgrades on the ES include a power window switch that is covered in satin-plating ornamentation.
Frequently used steering wheel buttons have received a slight raise to enhance operability for the driver, while a new cut-out is provided in the centre console storage area to increase ease of access.
The alignment of the AUX/USB lid has been changed in order to help the driver or passenger connect more easily, and the audio switch on the updated ES now adopts a metallic colour.
ES Hybrid top spec
The ES 300h SE receives the Lexus Safety System as standard, which builds on the “extensive” list of safety options in lower spec models, said Lexus.
This includes:
- All-speed radar active cruise control
- Pre-collision safety system with pedestrian detection
- Lane tracing assist
- Panoramic view monitor reversing camera
- 10 airbags
- LED low-beam headlights with automatic high beam
- Tyre pressure warning system
“This technology adds to the segment-leading style, luxury, and convenience features offered across the Lexus ES 300h SE sedan,” said Lexus.
Under the hood of the ES 300h models you will find a Lexus self-charging hybrid electric powertrain delivering a combined 160kW, with a claimed fuel efficiency from as low as 4.6-litres/100km.
Additionally, the 2.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine produces 221Nm in addition to the 202Nm from the electric motor, enabling the ES 300h to sprint from 0-100km/h in 8.9 seconds.
The top speed of the ES 300h is then electronically limited to 180km/h.
