At 2022, the new KIA Sportage will be available in European dealerships. New and fascinating photographs have been released to help pass the time till we get to see KIA’s redesigned compact SUV. The 2017 Sportage is a connected and electric SUV.
Everything is in place for the new KIA Sportage’s commercial introduction in Spain. The much-anticipated redesign of KIA’s popular and profitable small SUV is almost here. However, we will have to wait a few weeks to see the first units of this SUV in our dealers. And it’s that they won’t be able to disembark until the new year.
KIA has released some new and quite fascinating pictures of the Sportage in the hopes of amusing the long wait. Some photographs to appreciate the fifth generation of a core pillar on which the South Korean firm is founded on the Old Continent in great detail.

The KIA Sportage 2022 is a complete redesign of the popular small SUV. In January 2022, the first units of the new Sportage will be delivered to Spanish dealers. KIA, on the other hand, stated in its launch that the order book would be opened a few weeks prior. As previously said, the commencement of its commercialization will be near.
The 2017 Sportage is shown in a variety of variants in these photographs. This emphasizes the considerable degree of personalization available in the KIA SUV lineup. A large range of 17-, 18-, and 19-inch alloy wheels are available.
The N3 platform (a new architecture) will enable three degrees of electrification in the new model. A hybrid version (HEV) and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) will be added to the 48-volt mild hybrid technology (MHEV).
The MHEV technology electrifies all gasoline engines, while the diesel alternatives include a traditional block with a 1.6 CRDi 115 hp engine. 136 CV is positioned a step above this block, although it is electrified in this case.
Furthermore, and for the first time, the body may be equipped with a two-tone carving, with the roof painted black to provide a stunning contrast.
Inside, there will be a variety of trim and upholstery options. This will enable the creation of an atmosphere as well as an environment that reflects each driver’s personality. What’s more, when compared to the previous model, we’re looking at a significant improvement in quality. The materials are generally pleasing to the touch, and the architecture transmits firmness. Furthermore, the settings are faultless. Particularly in the more comprehensive versions.
The new KIA Sportage 2022 with its electrification pledge.
KIA has increased its quest for electrification in the competitive C-SUV category by taking advantage of the Sportage’s generational transition.
The proportions are the biggest difference between the worldwide Sportage and the Europe edition. The worldwide model is 149 millimeters longer than our SUV, which is 4,515 millimeters long. Per shop, there is always just one variation. To put it another way, Europe receives just the short wheelbase, while the rest of the globe receives only the long wheelbase.
Sportage GT-Line has the most noticeable modifications in terms of optics.
The Sportage builds on Kia’s new design language, which began with the EV6 electric crossover. It’s named “Opposites United” and it’s meant to represent a mix of natural and technological components. The new Sportage has a more angular, stocky appearance, which can easily be defined as courageous. The massive radiator grille, the upper section of which still displays the brand’s signature tiger snout, dominates the front. The lights with boomerang-shaped daytime running lights are equally impressive.
Optional matrix LED technology is available for the headlights. Kiathe GT-Line tweaked the design for the European model. The bottom half of the aprons features trim in the color of the car instead of chrome clasps.
A contrasting finish is also offered for the roof.
The bottom border of the window, which rises from the B-pillar, is especially evident from the side. The Sportage seems to be longer due to the tapering at the top. The D-pillar on the European model is different. It has the body color instead of a huge chrome piece, which breaks up the window trim, which is only repeated on the roof spoiler. Speaking of the roof, it is now available in the GT-Line with a contrasting finish for the first time.
The back is exactly as unique as the front: the taillights are mirrored and styled as open-to-the-outside brackets. The continuous band is only decorative and does not function as a light source. There are no false exhausts, and the rear apron has a touch of underride protection.
The windshield wiper has been relocated under the rear spoiler, just as the sister model Hyundai Tucson. There is between 591 and 1780 liters of baggage space behind the tailgate. The hybrid versions’ baggage compartment is a little smaller.
The inside, in particular, is in desperate need of remodeling. Even in the pre-series car, the material quality and processing are excellent, and a Harman Kardon sound system is available upon request. The curved glass panel familiar from the EV6 gives the cockpit a far more contemporary appearance than its predecessor.
Nice: Kia has chosen for a single curved glass without an intermediary junction, rather than two screens mounted at an angle. However, underneath it, there are two independent screens, each with a 12.3-inch diagonal. Two spherical instruments are displayed in the digital cockpit, the design of which varies depending on the driving mode.
Driving is firm yet comfortable (update!).
Electronic damper control was installed on the test car in the GT line. In normal mode, there are essentially no rolling motions in tight turns, indicating how well the engineers have calibrated the SUV. Despite all, there is still a reasonable amount of residual comfort, and the steering is finely set and adjusted with good feedback. Our test vehicle has all-wheel drive, a 180-horsepower 1.6-liter gasoline engine, and a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox.
Even if the 1.6er recognizes the loss of displacement with a loud scream on the highway driveway at full throttle, it swims well with this performance, the gearbox working seamlessly with the 48-volt electrical system.
Kia’s infotainment system has unique controls.
Kia has installed the newest edition of its UVO infotainment system, which has blue-violet symbols evocative of neon advertising from the 1980s. The system is easy to use and straightforward to control, and it responds rapidly to touch instructions. Updates are done “over the air.” The control panel beneath is a unique feature, according to the Kia “Multi Mode Touch”: “Basically, it is a screen for regulating the air conditioning, the temperature is still controlled here using physical knobs.”
The climate control panels, on the other hand, vanish when a finger is pressed; instead, navigation and radio shortcuts for the infotainment screen display. Even if it looks a little repetitive, this works extremely well the first time you try it. The gear selection is now done with a rotary control, with the final remaining buttons adjacent to it.
The 2017 Kia Sportage’s back seat is rather roomy, with plenty of room for people. Only the headroom is a little tight, but that’s owing in part to the optional glass roof. The front headrests include coat hooks on which you may hang clothing hangers without blocking the view out the side windows.
Driver aides are a significant improvement in terms of driving safety.
Kia has adequately enhanced its driving and safety assistance. When the Sportage blinks, the region in the blind spot is also shown as a picture onto the digital cockpit. A navigation-based cruise control, a 360-degree camera for the vehicle’s external depiction, and a remote control capability that allows the car to be steered into parking places from the outside are all available as driver helpers.
Furthermore, which of the following features is available: Highway Driving Assist, cruise control, and lane departure warning combined? At junctions and when reversing, the emergency brake assistance now functions. When changing lanes, the automobile also stops automatically if it senses an obstruction.
Hyundai Tucson engines power the vehicle.
The Hyundai Tucson’s platform is also used in the Sportage number five. He also takes up his driving duties. That implies two diesel engines with 115 and 136 horsepower, and two petrol engines with 150 and 180 horsepower for the European model. Each of the more powerful variations has minor hybrid assistance, with the gasoline vehicles getting the weaker one as well. A complete hybrid with 230 horsepower is also available. The 265 hp plug-in hybrid option is available if you wish to charge the car yourself.
Manual gearbox is offered on the two diesels and the entry-level petrol engine, while the remaining engines come standard with a double clutch or automatic converter. Most engines come with all-wheel drive and unique off-road driving modes as an option. Because it would compete with the EV6, a pure electric version may be ruled out. As a caveat, it should be noted that it is unclear whether all drive combinations of the European model are actually available in Germany.
Kia Sportage’s warranty remains at seven years.
The European Sportage will hit the market in early 2022. The beginning price has yet to be announced by Kia. With the normal price hikes that come with changing models, the Sportage number five should start at roughly 25,000 euros, including the Kia-known seven-year or 150,000-kilometer warranty.
