“Practical little city car” comes top of the pile in the Women’s World Car of the Year contest.
Kia’s Niro has been crowned the 2023 supreme winner of the Women’s World Car of the Year, beating five other finalists to the top gong.
A total of 63 motoring journalists from 43 countries were involved in the judging process and after selecting category winners, a second round of voting was held to decide what model would take out the World’s Best Car title.
The Niro, which had already won the urban model section, was picked ahead of Jeep’s Avenger, the Citroen C5 X, Nissan’s X-Trail, the Audi RS 3 and the Ford Ranger.
Judges had plenty of praise for the Niro, describing it as a “practical little city car that gives you everything you need in an affordable package”.
Elana Scherr, from the US, says: “The Kia Niro delivers a complete package that is clearly worthy of this award. Its numerous powertrain options, stylish design, easy-to-use technology, comfortable seating and budget-friendly packaging make it stand out among a field of fierce competition.”
Todd McDonald, managing director of Kia New Zealand, says the company is thrilled at Niro clinching the international award. “The Kia Niro is a standout performer, thanks to the all-new generation offering a wide-ranging suite of significant updates, including a specific focus on safety, aesthetics, design and technology – as well as a variety of low and no-emission powertrain alternatives,” he adds.
All voting for the annual contest was verified by Grant Thornton in Auckland.
