Two-door EV scorcher could slay Tesla with 430kW twin-motor power punch
Just when you thought the sold-out Kia EV6 couldn’t get any more appealing, along comes this bad boy – the Kia EV6 coupe.
Created by Hungarian photoshop wizard X-Tomi Design, the short, squat and altogether tougher-looking two-door Kia EV6 ‘Koup’, which X-Tomi labels as the Kia EV6 GT-Line 3Door, takes the award-winning five-door Korean electric SUV and reimagines it as high-performance two-door hatch.
By shortening the wheelbase, deleting the back doors and lowering the car, the Kia EV6 takes on a more athletic appearance. The SUV’s already aggressively styled roof spoiler didn’t need to be changed, but the silent assassin’s hunkered-down stance helps accentuate the EV6’s bold design cues.
The ground-breaking Korean EV, which was just named the 2022 European Car of the Year, is officially classed as a large SUV in Australia, where it’s priced from $67,990.
If Kia somehow allocated the development dollars – and customer base – to push ahead with a hot hatch transformation for the EV6, the ground-hugging Korean road rocket would almost certainly be offered with the EV6’s range-topping, tyre-shredding powertrain.
We’re talking about a twin-motor set-up powered by a 77.4kWh lithium-ion battery that delivers a 430kW/740Nm kick – enough to outpace almost every petrol-powered vehicle on the road, with 0-100km/h acceleration in a lightning-quick 3.5 seconds.
This shorter, sportier Kia EV6 hot hatch could hypothetically be tuned to deliver more oomph (but less range) and together with a lighter kerb mass, could provide enough thrust to take on some of the EV world’s heavy-hitters from Porsche and Tesla.
So you can expect to see even more performance and more aggressive new designs from Kia, leveraging the scalable E-GMP platform that also underpins Hyundai’s next-generation EV portfolio.
