Kia has filed trademarks for the EV6 moniker in India. This means the South Korean manufacturer is highly likely to bring the EV6 electric vehicle into the country.
At present, Kia Motors have no electric car in their current product line-up in India despite Hyundai already having an electric car in their product lineup.
That being said, Kia Motors is now planning to launch their EV6 electric crossover in India and according to the trademarks, Kia will be launching the Kia EV6 electric crossover in 4 trim levels.
As per the filings by Kia Motors, the company has filed for the trademarks EV6, EV6 Air, EV6 Water, EV6, Earth and EV6 Light. This is a surprise to many as Kia only has three trim levels for the upcoming Kia E6 crossover electric vehicle in international markets. The three trim levels on offer in Kia E6 in international markets are Light, Wind, and GT-Line.
In terms of powertrain, the upcoming Kia E6 is likely to be offered with a 58kWh battery pack. This battery pack will supply most of its juice to a rear-mounted 167bhp electric motor with 349Nm of peak torque.
This set-up will see the Kia E6 reach 100km/h from a standstill in just 8 seconds and reach a top speed of 185km/h. Moreover, this will give the electric crossover a claimed range of 373kms.
Other than this, there is also a chance Kia could bring the E6 crossover electric car with a larger 77.4kWh battery pack and a more powerful 225bhp electric motor with 349Nm of torque. In this guise, the Kia E6 could reach 100km/h from a standstill in just 7.2 seconds. Moreover, the claimed range in this guise is around 500kms per charge.
Internationally, the Kia E6 is also available with an AWD, dual-motor setup. In this setup, the Kia E6 puts out 320bhp and 604Nm of torque. Thanks to this setup, the Kia E6 can reach 100km/h in just 5 seconds. However, the top speed is still limited to just 188km/h and the claimed range also takes a slight hit at 441kms.
According to sources, the Kia E6 electric crossover will come to India as completely built-up units as Kia’s manufacturing facility in Anantapur, Andrapradesh will be at full swing to produce the Kia Carens, Kia Seltos, Kia Sonet and Kia Carnival models for both domestic and international markets.
Speaking of which, Kia Motors recently announced that the company has surpassed the 4 lakh unit sales milestone in India and has exported 1 lakh+ cars to over 91 countries.
Thoughts About Kia E6 Coming To India
The EV segment in India is slowly finding traction in the Indian automotive market. However, the current EV offerings in India can barely do 300kms on a single charge. That being said, if Kia can offer a long-range variant that can comfortably cover 400+ kms on a single charge, many customers would start leaning towards EVs.
