Kia is gearing up to launch the Kia EV6 electric crossover in India and the South Korean automaker has already filed trademarks for the ‘EV6’ moniker in India.
According to sources, Kia Motors is highly likely to bring the EV6 electric crossover as a CBU model. In addition to that, Kia is likely to launch the EV6 in India by the mid of this year.
Unlike Hyundai, Kia Motors do not have any electric car in its current product line-up in India and the upcoming Kia EV6 will be the South Korean automaker’s first EV in India.
As per the trademarks filed by Kia Motors, Kia should be launching the Kia EV6 electric crossover in 4 trim levels. However, Kia is more likely to import just the top-end variant and lower variants are more likely to be introduced after commencing the local assembly of the electric crossover.
As per filings, the company has filed for the trademarks EV6, EV6 Air, EV6 Water, EV6, Earth and EV6 Light. These trim levels do surprise many of us as Kia only has three trim levels for the upcoming Kia E6 crossover electric vehicle in international markets.
In the international markets, the three trim levels on offer in the Kia E6 Crossover are Light, Wind, and GT-Line.
Internationally, the Kia EV6 is available in three powertrain configurations, the base model of the Kia E6 is offered with a 58kWh battery pack mated to a rear-mounted 167bhp electric motor with 349Nm of peak torque.
The Kia EV6 with this set-up can reach 100km/h from a standstill in just 8 seconds and reach a top speed of 185km/h. In addition to that, this powertrain set-up will give the electric crossover a claimed range of 373kms.
The next powertrain option is the Kia E6 crossover equipped with a larger 77.4kWh battery pack and a more powerful 225bhp electric motor with 349Nm of torque. Using this powertrain, the Kia E6 crossover could sprint to 100km/h from a standstill in just 7.2 seconds and also comes with a claimed range of 500kms.
However, the third option is the most potent of the lot and comes with an AWD layout and dual-motor setup. This option is most likely to come to India via the CBU-route.
In this guise, the Kia EV6 produces 320bhp and 604Nm of torque. Thanks to the AWD layout and more power, the Kia E6 can reach 100km/h in just 5 seconds and reach a top speed of 188km/h. Moreover, the claimed range is rated at 441kms.
As mentioned earlier, the Kia E6 electric crossover will come to India as completely built-up units as Kia’s manufacturing facility in Andrapradesh will be in full swing to produce the Kia Carens, Kia Sonet, Kia Seltos, and Kia Carnival models for both domestic and international markets.
However, Kia will be looking to expand the manufacturing plant to make room for assembling the Kia EV6 electric crossover.
When launched in India, the Kia EV6 GT-Line brought via CBU route will cost above the Rs 50 lakh mark. However, these models will also come packed with all the optional features as standard.
