Kia launches the Carens in India priced at Rs 8.99 lakh (starting price). Deliveries for the MUV are said to begin this month. The Carens is available in both petrol and diesel variants with a choice of manual and automatic transmission options.
The Kia Carens MUV is available in 5 trim levels -Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury and Luxury Plus. In Addition to these, the Kia Carens is also available in both 6-seater and 7-seater configurations.
Design-wise, the Kia Carens looks very stylish and upmarket with its sleek split LED headlamps and Y-shaped DRLs. Moreover, the glossy black front grille and air intakes add a touch of sportiness to the MUV.
Moving to the sides, the Kia Carens carries a quintessential MUV silhouette with large glass area. However, the 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and chrome elements add some ‘Bling’, whereas the black claddings give the MUV a more rugged stance.
The new Kia Carens looks the most stylish from the rear with its wrap-around Y-shaped LED tail lamps connected by a light bar in the middle. Moreover, the rear bumper also uses a heavy dose of chrome to make the MUV look a bit more upmarket.
Also, the Kia Carens MUV is available in 7 different exterior colour options – Blue, Brown, Silver, Pearl White, White, Grey and Black.

In terms of safety, the Kia Carens comes with safety features such as 6-airbags, Vehicle Stability Control, ESP, BAS, hill-hold, Highline TPMS, ABS, EBD, ISOFIX Mounts, All-Wheel Disc Brakes and a few more.
Kia Carens is powered by three engine options. The base petrol engine is a tried-and-tested 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine with 113bhp and 144Nm of torque, whereas the 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine produces 114bhp and 250Nm of torque. The third engine option is the sporty 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 138bhp and 242Nm of torque.
All engines come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, however, only the turbocharged engine offer automatic transmissions. While the diesel engine comes with a 6-speed automatic, the turbocharged petrol unit comes with a 7-speed DCT unit.
The company also racked up more than 19,000 bookings and the company is on course to increase the annual capacity of its manufacturing plant in Andhra Pradesh. For this, Kia is gearing up to do three shifts in its Anantapur facility to reach the maximum production capacity of 3 lakh units per year.
While the Kia has aggressively priced the Kia Carens, the base 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine with manual transmission is only available in Premium and Prestige trim levels, where the latter is priced at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Somehow, Kia has priced the turbocharged petrol and diesel engines almost identical to each other with a starting price of Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Moreover, the top-end variants are also priced identical with a price of Rs 16.19 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the manual variants and Rs 16.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the automatic variants.
However, the Kia Carens equipped with the turbocharged petrol engine offers an automatic gearbox option in the ‘Prestige Plus’ trim as well, unlike the diesel unit which offers automatic transmission only in the top-end ‘Luxury-Plus’ trim.
