Volkswagen has a new electric vehicle (EV) in town with the reveal of the extended-wheelbase ID.Buzz that expands the van’s seating capacity to seven.
And while the new model hasn’t been confirmed for the local market just yet, VW Australia said it would like to introduce the new model to showrooms.
“We have our hand firmly up for it, and it’s our intention and in our planning to bring three-row ID.Buzz to Australia. Further details will be communicated in due course,” a spokesperson said.
If it were to arrive in local showrooms, the ID.Buzz seven-seater would be an all-electric alternative to the hot-selling Kia Carnival and Hyundai Staria, while also offering direct competition for the LDV Mifa and Mercedes-Benz EQV tailpipe emissions-free vans.
Measuring 4962mm long overall, the ID.Buzz seven-seater is stretched 250mm in the wheelbase compared to the two-row version, allowing a capacious 2469 litres of interior space.
Powering the new ID.Buzz is a single 210kW electric motor that drives the rear wheels, enabling a 0-100km/h acceleration sprint in 7.9 seconds.
While the new model hasn’t been confirmed for the local market just yet, VW Australia said it would like to introduce the new model to showrooms.Driving range is currently unknown, but VW has managed to fit a larger 85kW battery into the new ID.Buzz.
For reference, the standard wheelbase ID.Buzz and commercial-focused Cargo variants feature an 82kWh lithium-ion battery with a circa-423km driving range, and a 150kW electric motor.

The five-seat and Cargo versions of the ID.Buzz are still on track for a late 2024 launch, which means the there-row electric van would likely be rolled out in 2025.
