Buying a car can sometimes be quite risky – how do you know that you're not signing up for a lifetime of expensive services and replacement parts? We focus on Hyundai to find out whether this Korean brand is a good long-term investment.
The short answer is ‘no’, Hyundai is not an expensive brand of car to repair. Some Hyundai cars are among the most cost-effective vehicles regarding parts replacement and servicing costs, such as the Hyundai i20 which has the cheapest parts basket price of all its competitors, such as the Renault Sandero and Toyota Starlet and the now-discontinued Ford Fiesta.
The Hyundai Atos is another little car that reached a premium position in the cheapest parts list, beating the Polo Vivo, Honda Amaze, and the Kia Picanto. (The Renault Kwid and Ford Figo’s parts were even cheaper than the Atos.) This information is based on the 2020 Kinsey Report compiled by the late Malcolm Kinsey.
Older models of the Hyundai Tucson were famously inexpensive to repair as well (for the latest in Tucson pricing please contact your nearest Hyundai dealer).

Hyundai also offers buyers further peace of mind with their class-leading 7-year/200 000 km warranty. Hyundai’s dealer footprint in SA is massive and you won’t struggle to find parts.
