Even though both cars have the same engines, gearboxes & share many parts, more people pick Venue over the Sonet.
BHPian CR07 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.
I recently bought a pre-worshipped Kia Sonet HTX IMT Turbo Petrol, and have been very happy with my purchase. I went through many reviews of C-SUV styled cars before finalizing the Sonet.
One thing that caught my eye is, in Sonet and Venue, you have two very competent cars, however, the Venue completely dominates the Sonet in terms of sales. That said, I am very curious to understand, how the Venue manages to outsell the Sonet, which I believe to be a better vehicle, especially in terms of equipment. As can be seen from the sales of both cars for the past 6 months, the Venue manages to outsell Sonet by 30-50% each month.
Both cars get the same set of engines, and gearboxes and share many parts. Both cars are from the same Hyundai/Kia group, therefore we can expect the after-sales and reliability of both cars to be similar.
That said, the Sonet takes a clear lead in terms of equipment. I have compared both cars’ highest-selling variants, and the Sonet clearly has much more equipment to offer as can be seen in the below data. The Sonet also offers the much sought after Diesel + AT combo, which is absent in the Venue. The equipment gap widens in their respective top variants.
So what is the reason for substantially more customers choosing Hyundai over Kia? Is it the 25K price difference between the twins? Or is the brand Hyundai that much stronger for customers to not even visit a Kia showroom? Would like to hear your opinions.
Here’s what BHPian Shreyans_Jain had to say about the matter:
Hyundai’s much greater reach is at play here. The sheer scale of the company is bigger, from plant capacities to the number of dealerships and touchpoints. They can make more, they can reach more people, they can sell more. It also helps that the Venue’s base price is lower.
Here’s what BHPian the.dogfather had to say about the matter:
One major factor here would be the dealership network. Hyundai’s dealership network is close to 1000 dealerships as compared to Kia’s 100 (approx).
While Kia has good sales in major cities, they still have not penetrated the market in the smaller towns. This might be responsible for the difference here as the smaller dealership network limits the reach of Seltos.
Here’s what BHPian CrAzY dRiVeR had to say about the matter:
Baleno and Glanza – Identical except for the badges, but the sales figures speak for themselves. Brand reach plays a vital role and this is one of the best examples of it.
Some flops from Maruti and Hyundai sell more than the biggest hits of some other rival brands.
