Hyundai Canada have announced that they will retire one of their most successful vehicles at the end of 2020. The Accent was first released in Canada way back in 1994 and was pivotal in establishing Hyundai as a key automotive company in Canada.
The Accent was quickly accepted as an affordable and reliable alternative in the already busy subcompact market, especially for first time and younger drivers.
Now in its fifth generation the Accent has sold 462,494 units in Canada and was atop of sales figures, in the subcompact segment, for an unprecedented 10 years from 2009 to 2018.
To prove the importance of the nameplate in Canada, Hyundai Motors held the global reveal at the Toronto International Auto Show – a first for any Canadian Show.
Sales of the Accent performed particularly well in the Quebec market where providing reliability, value for money and low cost of ownership are considered major factors when purchasing a new subcompact vehicle.
The rise in the crossover has helped with the demise of the subcompact car and as Don Romano, President and CEO of Hyundai Auto Canada commented: “In the midst of the most aggressive product offensive in Hyundai history, we are rapidly improving the breadth and depth of our successful product portfolio. The successful introductions of both the Hyundai Venue and Kona represent great opportunities to offer the very best, award-winning vehicles on the market to our customers who are seeking entry-level and well-equipped transportation.”
The current 2020 model Accent will continue to be sold until the end of year – look out for some good bargains on what is already a competitively priced car.
