Hyundai has announced a limited edition Santa Fe Endurance Edition, celebrating the first passenger vehicle to be driven across Antarctica. 500 examples will be available in the UK.
A modified Santa Fe became the first passenger vehicle to be driven across Antarctica in December last year. Patrick Bergel, great-grandson of the polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, made the trek in a 2.2-litre diesel Santa Fe, whose modifications included large, low-pressure tyres, a 250-litre fuel tank and a pre-heater to cope with the sub-zero Antarctic temperatures.
The Santa Fe Endurance Edition is based on the 2.2-litre diesel 4WD Sante Fe Premium SE model. The otherwise optional convenience pack is included, along with unique logos, side steps, a dark grey finish to the 19-inch alloy wheels and a choice of five colours.
The Santa Fe Endurance Edition starts from £38,995 on-road, and will be available to order from 18th May.
