If you’ve taken a trip recently to it would have been impossible not to notice the sheer number of Teslas on the road. The Southern California region, Los Angeles, in particular, is a hotbed for the formerly Freemont-based carmaker. But times may soon be changing. Hyundai has confirmed it has delivered the first 2022 Ioniq 5 in Los Angeles.
Yaron Alfi is the proud new owner of an Atlas White example that he just picked up at Norm Reeves Hyundai in Cerritos, California. “Ioniq 5 is the perfect vehicle for my growing family. It ensures sustainability is at the forefront. The cabin is roomy and will offer an ample amount of space necessary for my young children,” said Alfi.
“The vehicle’s advanced connectivity features will offer great family fun, and we look forward to embarking on future road and camping trips away from the city. I’m thrilled to be one of the first buyers of this bold new vehicle, and I can’t wait to hit the road.”
Alfi has been a Hyundai owner since 2004 and today works at a space launch startup overseeing the rocket factory’s software platform. Hyundai must have noticed Alfi’s Ioniq 5 order because he’ll now be serving as a brand ambassador of sorts for the next year, documenting his EV experiences on social media. It’s easy to see how the Ioniq 5 appeals to tech guys, but Alfi is also a sports enthusiast and plans to use his new EV hatchback/crossover at football tailgate parties.
Family road trips with his wife and kids that will see them explore the American southwest are also planned. Having a two-year unlimited 30-minute charging subscription on the Electrify America network, a benefit every Ioniq 5 buyer enjoys, will definitely come in handy.
Like its corporate cousin, the Kia EV6, the Ioniq 5 rides on the automaker’s dedicated battery electric and flexible E-GMP platform. It’s only the beginning of several new EVs for both brands that will launch in the very near future. The Ioniq 5 begins at a darn reasonable $39,700, not including the $7,500 federal tax credit.
