In South Korea and the United States, Hyundai has issued a recall for the Ioniq with all-electric propulsion. A malfunction in the driving control’s circuitry is to blame. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Hyundai’s US division are now working on a recall for the all-electric version of the Ioniq.
The cause is an electrical problem in the CAN bus system, which may cause the vehicle to enter “fail-safe” mode. If this occurs, the EV emblem illuminates in the instruments, and the electric vehicle may only travel with restricted power and acceleration.
In severe circumstances, unintentional acceleration occurs.
An undesired, if gradual, acceleration can occur in rare but far more potent circumstances. However, an unusual series of events must occur in order to do this:
When the “fail-safe” mode is activated, the accelerator pedal must be pushed strongly and then held at 100 percent for a few seconds before being abruptly released. Despite the problem, the NHTSA claims that the brakes and steering systems are completely functioning.
In South Korea and the United States, the all-electric Hyundai Ioniq has been recalled.
The recall in the United States follows a Hyundai Motor Company examination into the matter in South Korea that took place between June and October. On November 25, 2021, a recall on the home market was begun as a result of this. Hyundai, on the other hand, is not aware of any accidents, fires, or injuries linked to the fault. Furthermore, the firm has not been able to ascertain if the fault happened with automobiles in the hands of customers.
A total of 2,679 Hyundai Ioniq EVs from model years 2017 to 2019, manufactured between January 21, 2016 and June 24, 2019, must be returned to US workshops. All concerned vehicle owners will be contacted by letter and urged to bring their vehicles to a Hyundai dealer. The engine electronics will then be upgraded for free, and the drive train wiring will be improved. So yet, it is unknown how long the associated workshop visit will run.
Hyundai Germany is currently unaware of the technical issue that has happened in South Korea and the United States. In this regard, it is currently unknown if automobiles supplied in Europe are also subject to a recall.
Hyundai has placed an order for 2,679 Ioniq EVs to be built in the United States. The recall is due to a technical issue in the engine electronics’ Might bus system, which can allow the automobile to accelerate accidentally in severe instances.
