A further 100 placements for the reigning carsales Car of the Year will open next week
Hyundai Australia will fling open the order book for the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 yet again next week, amid a rampant public response to the 2021 carsales Car of the Year.
The Korean car-maker embarked on a staggered local sales strategy for its twin-under-the-skin to the Kia EV6 in September last year, as it grapples with minimal stock due to global demand.
Hyundai says a further 100 IONIQ 5 EVs will become available for order on Wednesday, March 23 at 1:00pm AEDT.
The latest round of orders will be open to every state and territory except for the Northern Territory, which has been excluded from the ordering process since September.
As before, prospective buyers who have registered their interest for the IONIQ 5 via Hyundai Australia’s website are sent an email notification.
Once deposits are placed and orders are confirmed via Hyundai’s online sales model, the allocations will be placed with Hyundai’s factory.
Buyers who placed their orders in January won’t receive their vehicles any sooner than those who receive a spot next week, in a sales strategy designed to ease pressure on Hyundai’s online ordering system.
It comes as Hyundai endures lengthy wait times for the IONIQ 5 globally.
“With unprecedented demand remaining high across the country for this award-winning sell-out, we expect that delivery times could take six months or more,” Hyundai said on its local website.
“If you are successful in securing an IONIQ 5, you will receive confidential, electronic mail communications from our dedicated head office team, who will be your direct line of contact throughout your online buying experience.”
As before, successful candidates are given a choice of two IONIQ 5 variants: a rear-wheel drive model for $71,900 plus on-road costs, or an all-wheel drive model for $75,900 plus ORCs.
There’s no word yet on two other additional variants that have already been homologated for sale in Australia.
