The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been named as Britain’s best electric car at the inaugural Move Electric Awards, presented in partnership with OVO Energy.
The Ioniq 5 beat five other finalists, including the BMW iX luxury SUV, the Polestar 2 executive car and the Porsche Taycan sports car, to take the overall Best Electric Car title in the awards, held by What Car?’s sister title dedicated to e-mobility.
Judges praised the Ioniq 5’s “blend of dynamic performance, sharp styling, advanced technology and good range”. The Ioniq 5 is the sister car to the Kia EV6, the reigning What Car? Car of the Year.
Hyundai also won the E-business of the Year Award, recognising the Korean firm’s advances in electric vehicle technology and mobility.
Other winners included the Citroën Ami electric quadricycle, which won the Innovation Award for “offering a unique alternative to other transport options”.
The upcoming Mercedes EQXX electric four-door coupé was also honoured, taking the Best Use of Electricity Award. The EQXX will have the longest official range of any electric car when it goes on sale in 2023, promising up to 620 miles between charges.
