South Korean carmaker Hyundai has opened bookings for the all-new Ioniq 5 EV. Prospective owners can book the all-new Hyundai Ioniq 5 on the EV’s Indian website for Rs 1 lakh.
Hyundai has also revealed that the Ioniq 5 for India, which will be assembled at its plant near Chennai in Tamil Nadu, will be powered by a 72.6kWh battery pack. The Ioniq 5 for India offers a range of 621 kilometres on a single charge as per testing by ARAI.
The battery pack which is placed between the front and rear axles of the new Ioniq 5 supports DC fast charging at speeds up to 350kW. If you manage to find a 350kW DC charger, then the Ioniq 5 will charge its battery pack from 10 to 80 per cent in just 18 minutes.
The India-spec Ioniq 5’s battery pack powers a single electric motor that drives the rear wheels. The Hyundai Ioniq 5’s motor develops 214.5bhp and 350Nm of peak torque that is sent to the rear wheels via a single-speed automatic gearbox.

The Ioniq 5 is also quite a large car despite its retro 80s hatchback-inspired design. The Ioniq 5 is 4,635mm long, 1,890mm wide and 1,625mm tall and sports a 3,000mm wheelbase.
The battery pack and Hyundai’s E-GMP platform also allow for the two-way flow of charge which in turn allows owners to use the Ioniq 5 as a massive portable power bank. This is achieved through the Vehicle 2 Load (V2L) feature which was used at Hyundai’s announcement event. Hyundai used 3 Ioniq 5s to illuminate the Gateway of India in Mumbai.
Speaking at the event, Unsoo Kim, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India Ltd., said, “Hyundai IONIQ 5 is a grand statement of conscious consumerism. As committed, we will introduce this world-class BEV SUV to induce customer delight and usher in the future transformation of India’s automotive landscape. Hyundai IONIQ 5 is a strong step in this direction and with its intelligent technology and innovation, this BEV will bring us closer to a sustainable future. To foster and build an outlook that venerates the company’s testament to India’s progress, growth, and incessant development, we are glad to announce the commencement of bookings for Hyundai IONIQ 5 starting 21st December 2022 at this iconic landmark ‘Gateway of India’. Showcasing the technological prowess of Hyundai IONIQ 5, using the V2L feature, we illuminated the iconic ‘Gate Way of India’ in a one-of-a-kind demonstration.”
