Hyundai’s Ioniq 6 captured the 2023 Canadian Green Car of the Year title this week, which it was handed during the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) Green Vehicle awards. Additionally, the automaker was awarded the 2023 Canadian Green Utility Vehicle of the Year for the Ioniq 5.
“I want to sincerely thank the members of AJAC for once again recognizing the high quality of our products,” Don Romano, president and CEO of Hyundai Auto Canada, said in a statement.
“With our Ioniq models, Hyundai is committed to maintaining a leadership position in the transition towards an all-electric future. We are pleased with the enthusiasm and validation from accredited automotive journalists for Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 and look forward to sharing this great news with our customers and dealers across Canada.”

2023 Hyundai IONIQ 5
MSRP $48,999 to $54,999
The awards were decided based on recommendations from hundreds of member journalists in several provinces, who test-drove several electric vehicles (EVs) all across Canada. The victory for Hyundai comes a few months after the Ioniq 5 was also awarded AJAC’s Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year, in February.
The Ioniq 5 netted several accolades in 2022, having been crowned World Car of the Year; World Electric Car of the Year; and World Design of the Year. In 2023, the Ioniq 6 was given the same three awards.
“Congratulations to Hyundai on its impressive double success! In light of the accolades the Ioniq family is garnering while all automakers are working hard on electrification, we have to admit that the Hyundai recipe has ingredients that appeal to many, including the AJAC specialists,” Michel Crépault, AJAC president, said in a statement.
