The Hyundai i30’s most recent refresh was the Korean brand’s most ambitious ever. It was a revolution on every level. After little over a year on the market, the company has added a new twist by limiting the supply of diesel versions in several European nations, a gradual phase-out due to the large growth in hybrid variations.
The Hyundai i30’s range will be decreased in 2022. The Korean manufacturer has taken a significant choice that impacts the small model’s three body options as well as all European nations. A comprehensive plan that will allow it to cut expenses while focusing on electrification. Diesel is being phased out of the i30 five-door, the i30 CW, and the i30 Fastback sports sedan.
A fact that is not a coincidence nor a brand whim, but rather a customer decision. Hyundai sold 160,000 hybrid variants of its complete model range in 2021, indicating that owners of the three compacts were more interested in the 48-Volt MHEV electrified gasoline choices than either of the two. Hyundai offers diesel variants of the i30, with this technology available in the 1.6 CRDi engine’s most powerful model, which produces 136 horsepower.
The Hyundai i30’s diesel engine is no longer available, yet sales are not affected.
Customers choose the performance of the three-cylinder 1.0 T-GDI petrol engines and the four-cylinder 1.5 T-GDI petrol engines, with maximum outputs of 120 and 160 CV, above the solution to decrease consumption and emissions numbers. In reality, the diesel selection in Spain has been restricted to the 116 hp 1.6 CRDi engine with a six-speed manual gearbox in the i30 and i30 CW, and the same 48-volt option in the i30 Fastback.
Hyundai is selling this version because it is releasing the last mechanical blocks it has after ceasing production in the third quarter of 2021.
Hyundai’s Czech Republic division spokesperson, David Pavlek, said: “Due to falling demand in the small sector, diesel engines have been withdrawn from the i30 lineup. We do not anticipate offering them again in the near future. The diesel engines of the i30 model were not only removed from the Czech market, but their manufacture was also halted across the board.”
Customers are leaning toward new technologies that are more efficient and perform practically similar to diesel because of the ongoing attacks on diesel and the obligation of manufacturers to invest in the development of new technologies to comply with the increasingly strict limits on CO2 emissions.
This gasoline is no longer used by certain manufacturers, although the rates demonstrate widespread customer acceptance. In the case of the Skoda Octavia, just 50% of customers chose the diesel variant in 2021.
