Hyundai has confirmed that the next-generation i20 will make its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The Korean firm also released a batch of design sketches, giving us our first look at the new supermini.
While design previews tend to be glossier than the real thing, it’s clear to see that the Korean marque is going for a sportier look with the new i20. The grille, for instance, is significantly larger than the outgoing model, mirroring that of the somewhat controversial Sonata.
The car’s stance also looks far more aggressive than the current model, courtesy of a lower ride height and diamond cut multi-spoke wheels. A sloping roofline and small diffuser completes the sporty look.
So the i20 looks set to be one of the sportier superminis on sale, but we’re not convinced the sketches reflect the bog standard version. Spy shots of camouflage-wrapped test mules point to more conventional styling, with smaller wheels and a taller ride height.
That said, we do expect to see a hotter i20N variant join the range at some point this year. We’ll have to wait until the wraps come off in Geneva on 5th March to find out.
