Hyundai recently launched their new Cargo models in South Africa, which aim to provide a compact, safe, and affordable solution to transporting goods.
The Cargo range comprises two Atos specifications and a range-topping Grand i10 model – which sells for R211,500.
As long as the load you want to carry does not exceed 1.2 cubic metres, the Grand i10 Cargo may be an ideal addition to your business.
We take a look at what it offers, below.
Practical features
Although the Hyundai Grand i10 Cargo is a commercial vehicle, the front of the cabin has remained largely untouched when compared to the passenger-car derivative.
This means that comfort features such as a manual air-conditioner, central locking, keyless entry, all-round electric windows, and electrically-adjustable wing mirrors are fitted as standard.
In addition, it offers a 6.2-inch touch display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, along with partial cloth and vinyl seats that make the “long time spent on the road in a commercial vehicle easier”, said Hyundai.
To get the Grand i10 into its “Cargo” specification, the company then removed the rear seats, flattened the floor panels, added tie hooks, and installed a wire mesh cargo barrier.
This allows the small hatchback to carry up to 1,210 litres – or 488kg – of cargo in the rear, with the load being easily accessible via three door openings.
On the safety side of the standard equipment list, every i10 Cargo gets ABS with electronic brake force distribution and front airbags.
The Hyundai Grand i10 range scores a 3-star Euro NCAP safety rating, too.
Engine
Powering the Hyundai Grand i10 Cargo is a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, petrol engine connected to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The motor generates 49kW and 94Nm, achieves a low combined fuel consumption of 5.4l/100km – boasting an average fuel range of 685km per tank.
The Grand i10 Cargo accelerates to 100km/h in 14.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 153km/h, for those speedy delivery requirements.
Price
The Hyundai Grand i10 1.0 Motion Cargo has a South African price of R211,500.
Each purchase includes a 5-year/150,000km warranty with an additional 2-year/50,000km powertrain warranty, a 1-year/15,000km service plan, and 7-year/150,000km roadside assistance.
Additionally, Hyundai said the Cargo models are homologated as light commercial vehicles in South Africa – which allows business buyers to claim the VAT back on their purchases.
