Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) recently launched the Hyundai Exter micro-SUV. This micro-SUV from Hyundai is directly aimed at Tata Punch. So, which micro-SUV should you put your hard-earned money?
To bring clarity to this question, here is a quick comparison between the newly launched Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch micro-SUVs. Moreover, both these SUVs will be compared on the basis of 5 different parameters.
Design
In terms of design, both the Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch feature similar design features but they are executed very differently. For starters, both SUVs feature a split headlamp design and the DRLs are connected by the front grille.
Furthermore, both the micro-SUVs feature flared wheel arches, black cladding and roof rails. However, the Hyundai Exter looks a bit boxy with its sharp lines, whereas the Tata Punch looks more muscular.
Features & Convenience
Both the Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch come very well equipped with features such as touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, connected car tech, cooled glove box, climate control, and many more.
However, the Hyundai Exter SUV does come with a few additional and first-in-segment features such as built-in Dashcam, shark fin antenna, footwell lighting, paddle shifters, wireless charging pad, and onboard navigation system.
Space & Safety
The Hyundai Exter SUV measures 3,815mm long, 1,710mm wide and 1,631mm tall and sports a wheelbase of 2,450mm. According to Hyundai, the boot space of the newly launched Exter SUV stands at 391 litres.
In comparison, the Tata Punch SUV measures 3,827mm long, 1,742 mm wide, 1,615 mm tall, and sports a wheelbase of 2,445mm. However, despite being longer and wider, the boot space in the Tata Punch SUV is slightly lesser than the Exter SUV at 366 litres.
Powertrain
The Tata Punch is powered by a 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine. This engine is tuned to produce 84.48bhp and 113Nm of torque. Furthermore, this engine can be specified to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT unit.
On the other hand, the Hyundai Exter SUV also comes with a 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine with 81.8bhp and 113.8Nm of torque. Moreover, this engine can also be specified with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT unit.
Hyundai is also offering a bi-fuel variant of this engine which can run on both petrol, and CNG. However, in CNG mode, this powertrain produces just 67.7bhp and 95.2Nm of peak torque. Moreover, this bi-fuel variant comes exclusively with the 5-speed manual transmission unit.

Prices for the Tata Punch starts from Rs 6.00 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base (Pure) variant, whereas the top-of-the-line (Creative iRA dual-tone) model equipped with automatic transmission is priced at Rs 9.52akh (ex-showroom).
