Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has announced the name of its upcoming SUV as Hyundai Exter. This new SUV will join Hyundai’s SUV lineup and compete against the Tata Punch SUV in the Indian market.
According to Hyundai, the upcoming Hyundai Exter SUV symbolises the outdoors, travel and leisure, and draws inspiration from the natural world around it. This assures that the upcoming Hyundai Exter SUV will sport high ground clearance and a few rugged-looking design elements.
Speaking about the Hyundai Exter, the SUV is said to be based on the Hyundai’s K1 small car platform. This is the same platform used in the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios hatchback. This means the upcoming Hyundai Exter SUV will be approximately the same size as the Grand i10 Nios.
As such, the upcoming Hyundai Exter SUV is in no way related to the Hyundai Casper SUV sold in South Korea. In fact, the design of the Hyundai Exter SUV is said to be an angular design consisting of full-width lightbars at both front and rear.
Thanks to the use of the K1 small car platform, we expect the upcoming Exter SUV to sport the same tried-and-tested 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated, petrol engine as the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios hatchback.
This engine in the Grand i10 Nios hatchback puts out 82bhp of power and 113.8Nm of torque. Furthermore, transmission options in the Grand i10 Nios with this powertrain include a 5-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
When launched, the Hyundai Exter SUV will compete against the likes of Tata Punch and Citroen C3 models in India. Also, the success of the Exter SUV will help the South Korean automaker pull a decent lead over Tata Motors in terms of overall sales figures.
It is also worth mentioning that the upcoming Hyundai Exter SUV will be manufactured at HMIL’s manufacturing plant in Chennai and the model is expected to be launched ahead of the festive season in India.
Thoughts About The Hyundai Exter SUV
With the launch of the Hyundai Exter SUV, HMIL will be able to attract more customers to its showrooms and increase its overall sales. On top of that, the success of the Exter SUV will help the South Korean automaker hold on to its second spot in the Indian market.
