The upcoming Hyundai Exter SUV has been spotted undisguised in South Korea. These spied images not only reveal various interesting details about the Exter SUV, but also gives an idea of what to expect from this upcoming micro-SUV.
Looking at the design, the upcoming Hyundai Exter gets a split headlamp set-up with projector elements and a boxy design. Furthermore, the front section of the Exter SUV looks very unique with its full-width front grille and ‘H’-shaped LED DRLs.
It is also worth mentioning that the headlamps are placed inside the grille area, and the ‘H’ shaped LED DRLs are connected by a thin strip of black plastic. Also, the lower half of the front bumper features a quite prominent-looking faux skid plate.
On the sides, the upcoming Hyundai Exter gets flared wheel arches with thick cladding. These claddings are somewhat squarish which further accentuates the SUV traits. Other details on the sides include matte black finish on the A, B, and aft of the C pillar.
That being said, the rear features an upright tailgate, a relatively tall rear bumper, and ‘H’ shaped lighting elements on the taillamps. As in the front, the taillamps are connected by a plastic strip, which apparently also features the Hyundai logo.
Overall, the upcoming Hyundai Exter SUV seems to be quite an attractive micro-SUV, and we expect this model to be quite successful in India despite tough competition in the form of Tata Punch SUV.
Moreover, the upcoming Hyundai Exter SUV is said to be based on the Hyundai’s K1 small car platform, which is the same platform used in the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios hatchback. As such, it wouldn’t be surprising to see both models featuring the same engine and gearbox options.
However, it is also rumoured that the Hyundai Exter may also feature a more powerful 1.0-litre, turbocharged engine as an option. However, this is not likely as it can directly affect the sales for the Hyundai Venue SUV.
That being said, the 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated, petrol engine in the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios hatchback puts out 82bhp of power and 113.8Nm of torque. Moreover, gearbox options include a 5-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
When launched, we expect the Hyundai Exter SUV to compete against the likes of Citreon C3 and Tata Punch models in India. Also, the success of the Hyundai Exter SUV will help the South Korean automaker further increase its lead over Tata Motors in terms of overall sales figures.
Additionally, the Hyundai Exter SUV is said to be manufactured at HMIL’s manufacturing plant in Chennai, Tamilnadu and the model is expected to be launched ahead of the upcoming festive season.

The upcoming Hyundai Exter SUV is said to be launched ahead of the upcoming festive season in India and we expect this micro-SUV to be very successful in India. Furthermore, the success of the Exter SUV will help the South Korean automaker hold on to its second spot in the Indian market.
