Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has revealed the sketch of its upcoming SUV the Hyundai Exter. This upcoming SUV from the South Korean automaker will be positioned below the Hyundai Venue and rival the Tata Punch.
Analysing the design sketch, though the Hyundai Exter gets a split headlamp set-up and a boxy design, the front section of the upcoming SUV looks very unique compared to other Hyundai SUVs in India.
Diving into details, the blackened front grille stretches the entire width of the front bumper and the square headlamps are placed inside this grille area. Furthermore, the ‘H’ shaped DRLs, faux silver skid plates, and flared wheel arches add a lot of character to the SUV.
That being said, the upcoming Hyundai Exter is said to be based on the Hyundai’s K1 small car platform. This is the same platform used in the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios hatchback. As such, we expect the Exter SUV to be approximately the same size as the Grand i10 Nios.
If true, we expect the upcoming Hyundai Exter SUV to sport the same tried-and-tested 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated, petrol engine as the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios hatchback. This engine in the Grand i10 Nios hatchback puts out 82bhp of power and 113.8Nm of torque.
Furthermore, transmission options in the Grand i10 Nios hatchback are also likely to be carried forward and these gearbox options include a 5-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
When launched, the Hyundai Exter SUV will compete against the likes of Citreon C3 and Tata Punch models in India. Also, the success of the Hyundai Exter SUV will help the South Korean automaker pull a decent lead over Tata Motors in terms of overall sales figures.
Additionally, the Hyundai Exter SUV is said to be manufactured at HMIL’s manufacturing plant in Chennai, Tamilnadu and the model is expected to be launched ahead of the upcoming festive season.
Thoughts About The Upcoming Hyundai Exter SUV
The Sketches of the upcoming Hyundai Exter reveals that the upcoming SUV from the South Korean automaker features a very bold and unconventional design. Additionally, the success of the Exter SUV will help the South Korean automaker hold on to its second spot in the Indian market.
