The services that they offer to youth and their families are more essential than ever during these challenging times.
Automakers have been doing what they can to help those in need as we all continue to adjust to the job losses, illnesses, and other challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hyundai Canada has just announced a donation to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada that is meant to help provide care packages, child care, and more to help the club help Canadians meet their emergency needs in this difficult time.
The donation of $100,000 was announced today and is going to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada’s Emergency Relief Fund. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada operates in 700 communities across the coast, where they provide services to 200,000 children and youth that include healthy meals, afterschool programs, and learning and skills development. But across Canada, many Boys and Girls Clubs have been forced to close their doors in an effort to help prevent the spread of the virus, the services that they offer to youth and their families are more essential than ever. The Club says that the emergency funds will be distributed in numerous communities and to support a variety of initiatives.
Those include care packages of essential items for families, childcare for children of emergency health workers, grocery store gift cards for families, as well as other urgently needed services like mental health and counselling services as well as making sure that Clubs that have lost funding are able to reopen in the future.
“Now more than ever, it’s crucial that we support all members of our local communities and ensure they have access to the resources they need,” says Don Romano, President and CEO of Hyundai Canada. “We’re proud to contribute to the incredible work done by Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada to help young people navigate through this difficult time.”
Hyundai has partnered with the group since 2018.
“A huge thank you to Hyundai Canada for their generous donation to our emergency relief fund,” says Owen Charters, President and CEO of Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada. “Our Clubs are on the frontlines doing everything they can to support vulnerable communities—this act of generosity will help them reach more young people and their families in these uncertain times.
