The Hyundai Creta SUV was one of the latest made in India vehicles tested by Global NCAP under its safer cars for India program. The SUV earned a 3 star rating for both adult and child safety.
The Creta scored 8 out of 17 points to get a 3 star rating for adult safety. The Creta also managed to get a 3 star rating for child safety scoring 28.29 points out of a total of 49.
Like every other made in India car tested by Global NCAP under its safer cars for India program, the Creta too was subjected to a frontal crash at 64km/h.
Also, like every other made in India car, the Creta tested by Global NCAP was a base model of the SUV with two airbags, ABS, front seatbelt pretensioners and seatbelt reminders as standard. The base Creta was missing ISOFIX anchor points for child seats.
After testing, Global NCAP awarded the Creta a 3 star safety rating. While the SUV provided good protection for the front passenger’s head, neck, chest and left tibia along with the driver’s neck area, the results for the other monitored safety points were not so great. The protection provided to the driver’s head and left tibia along with the front passenger’s right tibia were only deemed to be adequate.
The protection provided to the driver’s chest and knees along with the front passenger’s knees was only deemed to be marginal. The protection for the driver’s right tibia was marked as weak while the foot protection was deemed to be poor.
Global NCAP noted that the Creta’s body shell and footwell areas were unstable and incapable of withstanding further loadings. This is rather concerning in case of a crash with multiple impacts.
In terms of child safety, the Creta managed to earn a 3 star rating as well. However, the lack of ISOFIX anchor points as standard did bring down its score.
According to Global NCAP’s testing notes, the Hyundai Creta failed to prevent excessive forward movement of the head for a three-year-old sat in a front-facing child seat while the protection to the chest area was deemed to be weak. For an 18-month-old in a rear-facing child seat, the Creta offered good protection to the head and chest areas.

The Hyundai Creta is one of the most popular vehicles currently sold in India. While the Creta SUV may have earned a 3 star rating for both adult and child safety, digging deeper into the results brings out some rather worrying facts. These include the fact that the body shell and footwell areas were deemed to be unstable after just one impact and the lack of ISOFIX anchor points in the base Creta model.
