South Korean carmaker Hyundai has opened bookings for the updated 2023 Alcazar SUV. The new 2023 Hyundai Alcazar can be booked for Rs 25,000 and the updated SUV will arrive on our roads with a brand-new petrol engine.
The updated Alcazar SUV from Hyundai will soon be running on our roads as the South Korean carmaker gets its lineup ready for the stringent RED emission norms that come into effect on April 1, 2023.
The RDE-compliant Hyundai Alcazar ditches the current-gen SUV’s 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine for a brand-new 1.5-litre forced induction unit that will also be seen on the new Verna that is due to debut on March 21.
Hyundai’s new turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol powerplant for the Alcazar is not only RDE compliant but will also be able to run on the E20 fuel that is set to become commonplace soon.
The new engine also increases the output that will be received by the Alcazar’s driven wheels. The new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine pushes out 157.8bhp and 253Nm of peak torque which is nearly 1bhp and 62Nm more than the incumbent 2.0-litre engine.
The new engine will be offered with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed DCT gearbox. With the manual gearbox fitted, the Alcazar 1.5 turbo-petrol engine returns a mileage of 17.5km/l while the automatic raises this to 18km/l.
The Alcazar’s diesel engine of choice will continue to be the 1.5-litre turbo diesel which churns out 113bhp and 250Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine has been updated for RDE norms and returns a mileage of 20.4km/l (manual) and 18.1km/l (automatic).
Hyundai has also updated the design of the Alcazar SUV and the SUV now comes with 6 airbags as standard equipment.
Speaking about the opening of bookings for the RDE-compliant Alcazar, Tarun Garg, Chief Operating Officer, Hyundai Motor India Ltd., said, “As we continue to redefine customer experiences across our model range, we are glad to introduce Hyundai ALCAZAR with a benchmark defining new turbo petrol engine that will meet aspirations of our most loved customers. Additionally, we have refined the design of Hyundai ALCAZAR as well as introduced new technologies to amplify Grand Experiences with this new age mobility solution. Hyundai ALCAZAR has been a steadfast volume driver for HMI and these new updates will certainly drive more affinity towards the brand. Further, we are well aligned with the Government’s mission of cleaner mobility solutions and the new 1.5 Turbo GDi petrol powertrain will be both RDE compliant and E20 fuel ready.”
Thoughts About the RDE-Compliant Hyundai Alcazar
The Hyundai Alcazar for 2023 gets the same engine as the upcoming Verna to help it comply with the new RDE norms that go into effect on the 1st of April. While the engine may have gotten smaller, the presence of a turbo ensures that the new motor is more powerful and fuel-efficient than before.
