Honda’s first electric vehicle received a warm welcome with the little E city car captivating via its characterful design. The Japanese firm’s plans to continue with electrification are gaining momentum, something clearly highlighted by the introduction of the Honda SUV E concept car at the 2020 Beijing Motor Show.
This electric SUV is to become the second mainstream EV from Honda, and hopes to tap into the current popularities of crossovers. Designed in-house by Honda’s team in China, the SUV E is about more than just a high driving position. Its styling is meant to evoke a much more sporting character than traditional SUVs.
A bold frontal design lacks a traditional grille, but its sculptural features host a glowing Honda logo. Slender wraparound LED headlights completes a clean new family face that will likely inform future Honda design. There are hints of Honda E in the C-pillar, but the two-door coupe-styled SUV certainly brings plenty of its own characteristics.
The interior is incredibly minimalist with a slender central console dividing front passengers. A windscreen that stretches up and over front occupants further boosts the airy design, while white leather sports seats reinforces that this concept car is about more than just image.
While it is unclear if Honda intends to bring the SUV E to Europe at this stage, we do know that it plans to introduce the production variant to the Chinese market as soon as possible. Honda are working on multiple electric models at this point in time, with one said to be a production take on the handsome Sports EV Concept.
There aren’t any official details on the battery, projected charging times or power outputs as of yet, but we’d expect the car to have a notably greater range than the 136-miles you get in a Honda E.
