It’ll be sized about like a Passport and available with all-wheel drive.

Honda released several photos of its first mainstream, full-production electric vehicle today, the Prologue crossover utility vehicle, set to go on sale in North America in 2024.
It’s about time. Just as cautious and conservative Honda came late to the SUV and minivan party decades ago, so too is Honda arriving late to the electric-car revolution, well behind many competitors like Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Volkswagen, Chevrolet and, of course, Tesla. Heck, even Mazda sells the MX-30 EV with 100 miles of range. But while it depended on partnerships with Isuzu to start its SUV and minivan lines a generation ago, this time Honda is launching its own Prologue crossover, designed at its styling studio in Los Angeles.
The Prologue has a clean, simple design.

While specs like battery size, range, and power were not released, Honda did lay out the Prologue’s exterior dimensions:
- 121.8-inch wheelbase
- 192.0-inch overall length
- 78.3-inch width
- 64.7-inch height
That wheelbase is one foot longer than the Passport but just three inches longer overall. The Toyota Highlander is three inches longer overall and almost a foot shorter in wheelbase. The Chevy Equinox is more than a foot shorter, and the all-conquering Tesla Model Y crossover is also shorter than the Prologue.
The Prologue’s ample wheelbase suggests it’ll have a roomy interior.

The Prologue’s longer wheelbase suggests it will have a roomier interior than some of its competitors.
“The Prologue will have a generous interior, which will provide ample space for passengers and cargo,” Honda said. “Showcasing a tech-rich cabin, the Prologue will have a standard fully digital 11-inch driver display panel and an 11.3-inch audio/connectivity display.”
Flooding that generous interior with natural light will be a panoramic roof, Honda promises.
The Prologue EV is part of Honda’s $35 billion plan announced in April to achieve carbon neutrality for “all products and corporate activities” by 2050. Toward that goal Honda said it will introduce 30 new EVs globally by 2030, with a global sales volume of 2 million units. In North America, the 2024 arrival of the Prologue EV will represent the beginning of those electric vehicle sales. That will be followed by more EVs based on Honda’s e:Architecture, which will be produced by Honda in North America. By 2027 Honda says it will begin sales of “affordable EVs” co-developed with GM and produced by Honda in North America.
“Honda has laid out an aggressive timeline of EV introductions based on three initial phases leading to 2030 and ultimately to 100% zero-emission automobile sales by 2040,” Honda said.
Honda has already announced an agreement with LG Energy Solution to make lithium-ion batteries in the US. But ultimately Honda plans to power its EVs with solid-state batteries, which are still under development by carmakers and battery makers around the world.
“Honda will build a demonstration line for the production of all-solid-state batteries with an investment of approximately 43 billion yen (almost $300 million) and further accelerate the research with a goal to start demonstration production in spring 2024,” the company said.
And it will all start with the Prologue you see here.
