Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (HMSB) today announced that it had sold 53,031 cars in 2021, down 12.3 percent from the previous year’s 60,468 cars, mostly due to parts supply shortage.
The contraction also means that Honda Malaysia lost the title of Malaysia’s No.1 selling non-national car brand to Toyota (71,585 units), but Honda still retains the lead for passenger cars.
Toyota’s passenger car sales didn’t fare any better than Honda and once you minus commercial vehicles like – which saw a big jump in sales on the back of recovery of small businesses – and the , Honda still holds the lead in passenger car sales.
The remains as HMSB’s best-selling model followed by the HR-V and CR-V, contributing 36%, 21% and 14% respectively to the total units sold.
As for 2022, Honda Malaysia has set a sales target of 80,000 units, a 50 percent increase from 2021. The sales target was set based on the Company’s forecast Total Industry Volume (TIV) of 600,000 units, which is identical to MAA's TIV target announced earlier this year.
