The first half period in Japan is recorded from April until September and during those six months, Honda has sold 37,475 units of the Freed. The compact minivan was partially improved in June which saw new standard features added including front heated seats along with new Black Style variants.
The second-generation Freed was first introduced in Japan in 2016 and yet despite the age, it still contributed to Honda Japan’s sales which mainly consist of kei cars like the N-Box. Meanwhile, the N-Box is Japan’s best-selling kei car in the first half of 2022 which should help satisfy the demand for the literal box of wheels in Malaysia’s recond market.
According to sales data from the Japan Automobile Dealers Association (JADA), Japan’s best-selling car in the first half of 2022 is the (the TNGA one, not the one sold here) with 84,251 units sold. The figures include sales of the .
Overall, the Freed is the 5th best-selling car on sale in Japan based on JADA’s data. Meanwhile, its closest rival, the is placed 13th overall with 25,381 units sold which is nearly 1.5 times less than the Freed’s figures.
Still, the Sienta saw a new generation that was launched in August and based on JADA’s sales data in September, it’s Toyota’s minivan that outsold the Honda. 7,785 units of the all-new Sienta were sold compared to 7,763 units of the Freed so it’s still a very close fight between the two.
Can the Honda Freed maintain its position ahead of the Toyota Sienta in the remainder of the year or will the latter catch up? The Freed could be getting a replacement too given the current generation has been on sale for 6 years.
