Japanese carmaker Honda has revealed the e:Ny1 electric SUV. The Honda e:Ny1 pronounced “e-en-why-one” is the second all-electric vehicle from the Japanese carmaker.
The all-new Honda e:Ny1 was revealed at the firm’s European Media Event in Offenbach, Germany. The all-electric B-segment SUV debuts a new all-electric identity for Honda.
This new identity can be seen with the new white Honda ‘H’ badges seen on the nose of the EV, wheel centre caps and steering wheel. In addition, the Honda lettering on the tailgate features a new typeface.
In terms of its looks, the new Honda e:Ny1 sports design cues that fans of the Japanese brand will easily recognise.
The biggest change comes in the form of the flush front grille which hosts the charging port for the electric SUV. The front end also sports some lights that only flash when the e:Ny1 is being charged and wink at you when the charging cable is removed.
The Honda e:Ny1 rides on some rather snazzy alloy wheels and features a roof-mounted spoiler and a full-width light-bar style for the LED taillights.
Inside, the all-new Honda e:Ny1 sports a tech-focused cabin. Behind the steering wheel with the white Honda badge sits a 10.25-inch digital instrument display. The centre section of the dashboard sports a vertically aligned 15.1-inch touchscreen instrument cluster that features three distinct sections that control various aspects of the e:Ny1.
The top section features navigation and smartphone connectivity options while the central area covers audio controls and EV-specific functions. The final lowest section controls the A/C and seat ventilation.
The Honda e:Ny1 is based on an all-new EV-specific platform dubbed e:N Architecture F. The new e:Ny1 is powered by a high-capacity lithium-ion battery pack 62kWh (usable) which allows the electric SUV to travel 412 kilometres on a single charge.
The electric battery pack powers a single electric motor that powers the front wheels. This motor produces 201bhp and 310Nm of peak torque.
Charging speeds for the Honda e:Ny1 are limited to a maximum of 76kW with DC power. Still, fast charging between 10 to 80 per cent takes just 45 minutes. Honda claims that the e:Ny1 can add 100 kilometres of charge in just 11 minutes.
Thoughts: The Honda e:Ny1 is the Japanese firm’s second all-electric vehicle. However, we in India should not expect this electric SUV to hit our roads anytime soon with the brand first going down the hybrid route in the subcontinent.
