Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) recently launched the new Dio 125 scooter. This new scooter from HMSI is aimed to improve its grip over the growing 125cc scooter segment in the country and it competes against the likes of other sporty 125cc scooters in the country.
That being said, the biggest competitor to the new Honda Dio 125 is the standard Honda Dio scooter itself. So, here’s a quick comparison of the new Honda Dio 125 scooter with the standard Honda Dio scooter.
Design
At a glance, both the new Honda Dio 125 and Honda Dio look quite similar to each other. However, when both these scooters are parked side-by-side, the differences in design starts popping out everywhere.
In fact, Honda seems to have redesigned almost every panel of the new Honda Dio 125. However, there are a few parts of the Dio 125 that completely differ from the standard Dio. These parts include a dual-tip muffler and a completely new set of rear taillights.
Powertrain
As we already know, the new Honda Dio uses a bigger powertrain. This engine 123.92cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine in the Honda Dio 125 is tuned to produce 8.17bhp at 6,250rpm and 10.4Nm of torque at 5,000rpm.
In comparison, the standard Honda Dio scooter is powered by a 109.51cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine. This engine is tuned to put out 7.65bhp at 8,000rpm and 9Nm of peak torque at 5,250rpm.
Tyres & Brakes
The new Honda Dio 125 is equipped with a 12-inch wheel at the front shod by 90/90 tyres and a smaller 10-inch wheel at the rear wrapped in 90/100 tyres. The scooter also comes with a disc brake set up at the front for more effective braking performance.
On the other hand, the standard Honda Dio scooter also uses tyres and wheels with identical specifications to its 125cc sibling. However, the model comes equipped with drum brakes set up at both ends.
Features
In terms of features, both the New Honda Dio 125 and Honda Dio come equipped with similar equipment levels. This includes features such as LED headlamps, external fuel filler, digital instrument cluster, telescopic front suspension, and more. Furthermore, both models also offer Smart Key as well.
Ground Clearance & Kerb Weight
According to HMSI, the ground clearance of the new Honda Dio 125 scooter stands at 171mm and the scooter weighs in at 104kg. On the other hand, the ground clearance of the Honda Dio measures just 160mm and the kerb weight is rated as 103kg.
Thoughts About Honda Dio 125 & Dio
Though the Honda Dio 125 is a scooter from a different segment, its biggest competitor is likely to be the standard Honda Dio scooter. That being said, the new Honda Dio 125 seems to be a better scooter thanks to its more powerful 125cc powertrain. Apart from that, there is nothing that separates these scooters.
